(put overview description here)

The North Forest

A large forest covering rolling hills north of the swiftcurrent river. It covers an area reaching about 200 miles east and west, and about 100 miles north and south. The land rises to the north, where the forest tapers off at the foot of the Worldspine Mountains, a high mountain range seperating the region from the Northern Wastes. The North Forest hides numerous ruins, remnants of the various civilizations that have populated this region over the centuries.

The Dwarven Outpost/Mine

The as-of-yet unnamed dwarven outpost is a little less than a full day's travel to the east of Darktower, in the mountains just outside the Black Forest. The dwarves send silver ore downriver to Darktower, where it is smelted in the Dwarven Quarter. The dwarves are also well known for their strong and delicious mead, which fetches a good price near and far. The dwarves enjoy the rare company that comes this way and respect the PCs for their bravery, fighting ability, and appreciation for good dwarven mead.

Thoric

The settlement of Thoric was founded by those who were not welcome in Darktower. It was essentially lawless, policed by brute force of the town's founder, a veteran criminal after whom Thoric was named, and his band of ruffians. Thoric was recently overrun by hobgoblin forces. Soon thereafter it was razed to the ground by a large raiding party from Darktower, to prevent it's use as a hobgoblin outpost.

The Logging Camp

A logging camp about five miles north of Darktower is the town's primary source of construction material. It also provides Darktower with enough firewood to last through the long, cold winters. Throughout the warmer months, the lumber camp is home to around 100 seasonal workers, who are rewarded well for their labor.

The Black Forest

A large forest that is mostly uninhabited. It's named after the constant gloom beneath the thickly interwoven branches overhead. The forest is very thick, and as such travel off of old roads and game paths is very slow. The forest is the home of many dangerous creatures, the most common of which seem to be ogres, dire wolves, and stirges. There is an old road leading through the forest with small, run-down camping huts every 20 miles or so along the way.

The Northern Wastes

Beyond the Worldspine Mountians lies the Northern Wastes. Little is known about this region, as few who have travelled there have survived and returned. The Northern Wastes are the homeland of the hobgoblin legions. There are a number of prominent hobgoblin clans, and they are often at war. Resources are scarce, winter is long and cold, and dangerous creatures roam the landscape. Growing up here, the weak are quickly weeded out. As a result, the hobgoblins from the wastes are generally strong, tough as nails, and very accomplished warriors.

The Worldspine Mountains

A high, jagged, snow-peaked mountain range which runs east-west to the north of the North Forest, and is visible for hundreds of miles around. Few have braved the treacherous mountain paths, so little is known about the area.
